Ear Infections

My 7 yr old cub had a little ear infection a couple months ago, that was his first one since he was 2 years old. Between 6 mo. and 12 mo. old he had five ear infections. He caught every single cold his older siblings brought home and it always ended up settling in his ears and him having to be put on antibiotics. Of course, by the fifth time, he had to be put on a stronger antibiotic because the other one wasn’t doing the job. Plus, his Dr. was pushing me to get tubes in his ears. I just couldn’t bring myself to having my 1 yr. old be put under for tubes. I know, he more than likely would’ve been fine, but I wanted to try a different route and use tubes as a last resort.

I went to our Chiropractor and he told me to bring him in to get adjusted every time he got a cold. Things weren’t draining properly so adjustments would help that. I also went back to my roots, herbs. I grew up with them and knew without a shadow of a doubt that garlic was the way to go for ear infections. My “go to” one? Mullein/Garlic by Herb Pharm. I love this compound!! My little cub had two more little ear infections sometime before he was two years old, he went to the Chiropractor and I did the drops in each ear (just to be on the safe side). He didn’t have another ear infection until a couple months ago. That is almost 5 years between ear infections! I went from a child who had them repeatedly to hardly having them at all. Garlic is that good. Does it smell the best? Not really, but my child’s health was more important than the smell I don’t care for.

It’s easy to use, you warm bottle by rolling it in between your hands then drop into ear and have them lay there as long as possible so it can really get in the ear. Put a cotton ball in the ear before they get up, or go to bed, to prevent leakage. I have used it on my babies too. It’s a little harder sometimes but I would put one drop in the affected ear while they were sleeping in my arms, that way it had time to really get in the ear and do it’s healing.

Another one I like is Dr. Christopher’s Oil of Garlic . Dr. Christopher is great, his stuff is where my parents learned all about herbs. Here is just a little of what Dr. Christopher has to say about garlic.

I do believe essential oils can help to, but I have a hard time changing my habit with this one when I know it works so well. Plus, you can never become immune to garlic, like you can with regular antibiotics or even other natural remedies. This will always be my “go to” way for ear infections. 🙂

**Safety Tip** DO NOT put anything at all inside an ear that is perforated. If there is any puss and/or blood coming out of the ear, the ear drum is perforated.

If there is any puss coming out of the ear, that means the ear drum is perforated (it tore, due to the pressure). It will heal, but DO NOT put anything at all inside an ear that is perforated…
